Teaching Philosophy
Private lessons are fun, informative, and crucial to a student’s development
Focusing on the fundamentals
I am committed to focusing on the fundamentals with my students at all levels. Whether you want to take lessons to improve your technique, develop a new hobby, or if you would like to learn several percussion instruments and work towards your next audition, I am happy to help you understand the fundamental aspects of playing many genres of music.
Studying the fundamentals with me can be a lot of fun! Together, we can develop your skills on drum set, snare drum, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel. These are just a selection of the instruments we can work on together. For the middle school and high school students, bring your TMEA All-State etudes to me and I will give the pointers you need to succeed.
At my in-home studio we can work on a 5.0 octave DeMorrow marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, drumset, and variety of snare drums, cymbals, tambourines, and accessory instruments.
Commitment to a well-rounded education
The percussion family is a huge one: we are required to play all of mallet instruments (marimba, vibraphone, xylophone), drums of all shapes and sizes (snare drum, timpani, drumset), and endless auxiliary instruments. I am dedicated to show you how to approach every percussion instrument with ease.
Too often, percussionists can become very focused on one or two instruments but neglect the others. I strongly promote the pursuit of all instruments and styles. Trying new things and keeping your musical tastes fresh are the key to success in music, whether it be excelling in school or just having fun playing the next gig with ease!
Name your own goals for percussion lessons with me, or I can help you create some. Overcome obstacles, expose yourself to new ideas, and enjoy the challenge of studying percussion at my studio in Plano, TX.
My lesson rates start at $75/hour, $50/half-hour.
